The studio

Two of us, a dozen rooms a year, and no house style.

Hulver Studio is led by Miriam Hulver and works on houses and flats across London and, occasionally, further out. We are small on purpose: whoever comes to the first visit is the person who draws your room.

Textile samples and paint swatches laid out as a scheme board on the studio table

How we work

We start from the room and the people in it rather than from a look. That means the first visit is at the hour you actually use the room, the scheme is proofed on your own walls, and nothing is ordered until you have seen the colour at night.

We do not take commission from suppliers. Where we buy on your behalf the trade discount is passed on to you, and where you would rather order yourself, you can.

What we will not do

  • Sell you furniture you do not need to hit a budget
  • Put a scheme in front of you that has not been proofed on the wall
  • Take on a room we think a decorator could sort out in a week
  • Draw joinery a cabinetmaker cannot price

The order it happens in.

Week one

We come and look

A visit to the room at the hour you use it. We measure, photograph, and ask what you already own that has to stay.

Weeks two to four

The scheme is drawn

Colour, material and layout worked up together, then shown to you once as a whole rather than dripped out in pieces.

Week five

Proofed on your walls

Paint goes up on the actual wall over the actual primer, and samples sit in the room for a week. One full revision is included here.

From week six

Ordered, or built

You order from the schedule, or we run the build with your trades and hand over a snag list at the end.

Three ways to work with us

Consultation visit

£180 fixed, for a two-hour visit

We come to the room, look at it at the hour you actually use it, and talk through what it needs. You get a written summary of the directions worth pursuing within five working days — colours, materials, and what we would not spend money on.

Colour & material scheme

from £1,400 per room

A full scheme for the room: dominant, supporting and accent colours specified to the paint reference and finish, with floors, stone, joinery, metal and textile pulled into one story. Proofed on your walls before a tin is opened. You order from the schedule yourself.

Full room design

from £4,800 per room

The scheme, plus layout, lighting and built-in joinery drawn properly — a set a builder and a cabinetmaker can quote against without ringing you every other day. We visit site through the build and handle the snag list at the end.
